Big Day

Today was a big first in what I am sure will be a year full of 'firsts'. Owen finally lost his umbilical cord stump, now we can finally have our first real bath...with pics to follow. Of course, he seems to finally be getting used to his sponge baths and doesn't scream through them anymore, but I am sure he will enjoy the real thing a little more.

Sparty On!

Thanks to all of Owen's great aunts and uncles for hooking us up Spartan style!! We absolutely LOVE the MSU 101 board book and we know that Owen will know all of MSU's traditions before he is able to speak. I think he is ready for March Madness to begin.

First Month Dr. Appt

Owen had his first month dr. appointment today. He is doing wonderfully! He now weighs 8 lbs 2 oz and is 21 1/4 inch long, everything looks great. Owen, however, did not enjoy going to the doctor. He cried (no, screamed) the entire time. Grandma Kim was in the waiting room and could hear him, I know that it was killing her and she wanted to come to the rescue. Luckily he had a great nap when we got home. That much screaming would make anyone exhausted. The Dr. even gave us a tip to get him to sleep longer at night--mix rice cereal in with the breast milk to keep him satisfied longer. I think I will be going to the store tonight...

Matt is finally an uncle...

Matt and MB stopped by on their way back from Asheville to meet their nephew. They seemed to be able to step right back into the role of caring for an infant quickly, but I think they are happy to be past the sleepless nights. We are all very excited for Owen to meet his cousins next, most likely at Ryan's second birthday party...we can't wait!

Meeting Grandpa Zippy

Owen was able to meet yet another family member this past weekend, Kim and Ralph came down for President's Day weekend. Zippy wasn't too sure of him the first day, but by the second he was hooked! As you can see, Owen enjoyed his grandpa time too. While Owen was really sad to see him leave, I think Marlow cried real tears for days after his departure. Hopefully he will be able to make it down soon for another visit...

First car ride with mom

As you can see, Owen was thrilled to go for a car ride with his mother. I am proud of myself for actually getting out of the door on time to take grandma to the airport, I even planned ahead and fed him a bottle in order to leave on time. Owen did a great job in the car and only made a soft peep when the car slowed down at the airport, I think he was sad to see his grandma go :(

We had to say goodbye to Grandma Julie on Wednesday after having her with us for Owen's first three weeks of life. It will definitely be a time that I will always remember and cherish; I don't think I would've survived without her help! I know Owen really enjoyed it too, there was always someone available to attend to his cries. And let's not forget how much Luke and Marlow appreciated Grandma's cooking!! Hopefully she will come back to visit soon with Grandpa...

Little Toes

One of my very mature second graders told me to take tons of pictures of the baby's hands and feet. I decided to take her advice yesterday when I realized that Owen has already grown one inch!! Yes, we measured him! Before long these tootsies will be larger than his mothers...

"Air Owen"

Owen is looking very pimped out in his Jordan outfit from Kevin--Luke was loving this look! Thanks to Grandma Kim for coming up with the clever name!

Strong little guy

Owen enjoying some 'tummy time'. So far he can only lift up his legs, but it is quite amusing to watch. It won't be long until he is on the move...oh no!!

I'm not always cute

Although we don't see this face very often, it seems to rear it's ugly head every evening! Owen has his cries down to a pattern and boy is he ever loud! If you have had the chance to call during one of these episodes, then you have heard his strong lungs. I have a feeling that he will take after his dad and his voice will be heard when he is older.

Luckily these crying fits are usually due to a good reason; hunger, dirty diaper, lost his pacifier, bath, tired, uncomfortable, etc. Figuring it out is sometimes the tough part :)

Best Friends

Marlow has been enamored by Owen since he was in my belly! All throughout my pregnancy you could find Marlow with his head on my stomach, now that Owen has arrived you can find him near Owen (except at night when Marlow decides to sleep on the couch so that he doesn't get disturbed by the late night cries). I am sure these two will share many fond memories in the future :)

I'm changing...

Owen is two weeks old today and he is such a good baby. The first week was very trying at times due to the lack of sleep, but I think Luke and I are finally starting to get the hang of things. It helps that he is such a good sleeper--I hope I didn't just jinx it! He also has a very good disposition and is only fussy when he needs something, but who isn't? One thing that always seems to keep him a little upset are the hiccups--they seem to come after our 3 a.m. feedings and proceed to keep him awake. Owen still does not care very much for the sponge bath, hopefully he'll enjoy the baths more when we move to the plastic tub.
