An example of a townie...but look how happy he is!

When I was growing up my family introduced me to two terms:  Lakers and Townies.  In my family, you didn't want to be referred to as a Townie.  It meant you spent your summers 'in town' away from a lake and when you were introduced to a lake, you didn't really enjoy it.  On the other hand, Lakers were always on the water and knew their way around the lake.  I am hoping my kids will grow up to be Lakers.  I think we are well on our way...
